The skill of a consultant is to diagnose a situation within a business and to offer suggestions; a range of options which will address it. 

To illustrate, it may be a case of a client thinking that they need a particular in-house activity or training program to address a problem. 
In reality, once more information is gained on the nature of the problem, the solution can be quite different. 
An example is that of a business owner who thought that he needed time management training. He didn't. He needed to learn to trust that his operational staff shared his commitment to both high quality workmanship and customer service. 
We agreed to run a series of short team meetings, during which he was able to articulate his concerns, to hear from his employees about their level of commitment and then together, look at how the work might be better shared.

In fact, the solution was more effective and less expensive than had been envisaged by the business owner.
