Coaching can be either used as a back up to training, that is helping people to further enhance their skills, or it can be coaching to support people to create and achieve their own personal goals.

|
Both are usually conducted one on one, although not necessarily so.
Both involve setting goals. For skills enhancement, people are asked to set goals for achievement for work, including increasing productivity, or improving the quality of the work or their relationships.
Coaching involves helping people to identify their goals, to also identify what may be hindering them from reaching those goals and then finding options to remove those hindrances and so move forward. Once these options have been identified, it is a matter of selecting
the best options, and creating an action plan. The coach then continues to support the person in actioning the plan. That support can be to help them to develop the skills required, or may simply be providing them with ongoing encouragement.
